I heard it. He didn't really say anything new, but it was very upbeat and he sounded very excited. They asked him what he had been doing all summer because he was last on there at the end of June. He talked about the thrill of playing to giant crowds all summer (11,000 in Muskegon, 5000 in Lansing, 9500 in Kalamazoo). He especially gushed about Taste of Kalamazoo, how it was a record crowd for that event, how good it was to play with the symphony and how great they sounded. He told the story of working with Jim and "a friend of mine" Victoria Shaw on "Thank You", and said he is happy the song is doing well on the radio and getting him radio play, "which is new for me". He told the story of the newspaper article about him playing for strangers at the Radisson, which obviously meant a lot to him. He said it was like a Michigan version of a Rolling Stone article that tries to get inside the artist's head. It turns out that writer is actually a business writer. He also promoted his Thursday concert and Big Brother Big Sister.

When talking about the meaning of "Thank You" to him, he said it was for all his fans that have stuck by him even though he didn't get a recording contract off AI. He then said that some people think if you don't do something right away after AI you'll never be heard from again, but that things have gone pretty well for him this summer. This gave the DJs an opportunity to tell him he is going to keep going because he is so talented, and he is staying true to his Michigan roots, etc.

I am so happy for him. I can't believe his song hit the charts in less than a week. #32 this morning! I hope he can make Top 30 this week.

Thanks csprof! I was finally able to hear it but wow that was a very detailed right on the money summary! You and Mattyfan have been doing such an amazing job keeping this forum going. I have to admit that it was becoming a little exausting for me trying to run the site and I pretty much gave up so I am very happy you guys took over. When I get my computer up I will help out more. I'm happy to help, particularly with something as fun as watching Matt's song move up the charts. In addition to all the numerous things you've done in the past, you made a HUGE contribution with that livecast from Taste of Kalamazoo. I can't thank you enough for that. If it weren't for you, the rest of us would never have seen Matt perform "I Miss You Tonight" with the symphony. The other wonderful videos of Matt with the symphony were taken down by YouTube at the symphony's request. Your livecast is the only record of that amazing part of the concert. Between that and the Motel video, I can see why everyone came away from that concert with such love for Matt.

My Matt time is going to be curtailed a lot next week when summer ends for my children and me. I think I can keep the chart thread updated, and hopefully mattyfan can keep the radio request thread updated, but other folks may need to be listening to the interviews and be on the lookout for DJs announcing the interviews. We don't always hear about them from Matt, unfortunately. And of course, everyone needs to keep requesting. I think Top 20 is within reach, but only if we push really hard.
