New Question of the Week...
We're all on this forum because we love Matt's music, so it's likely that there are other artists that many of us might all enjoy, too. Who are some of the artists you love, and what song of theirs would you want to hear Matt cover?
We loved both Funnymonkie's and Skyler's questions so we decided to combine them into one question! Thanks so much Funnymonkie and Skyler for the great suggestions.

Some of my favorite artists are...
3 Doors Down, Billy Joel, One Republic, Staind, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, The Fray, Kelly Clarkson, Snow Patrol, Eagles
I have been dying to hear Matt cover One Republic's Come Home for a very long time! He would kill this song and take names! I don't think there would be a dry eye or sound in the venue if he sang this song.
I would love for him to sing something by Billy Joel like New York State Of Mind, My Life, Honesty, River Of Dreams, She's Always A Woman, She's Got A Way.
There is one song I have wanted to hear Matt sing since he mentioned it and that is Simple Man by Lynard Skynyrd
I was very disappointed when Kris Allen chose Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers because I wanted Matt to choose that one! Matt would sound amazing with this song because of his incredible soulful bluesy voice! Thought I should mention that Kris did a great job with the song!
I can think of a million other songs I'd love to hear him sing but that would take forever so I will stop here!

Great idea Jenna about combining the two questions.
I have a huge love of music, and I'll listen to just about anything! My favourite artists to listen to are, David Cook, Maroon 5, Michael Buble, Ryan Star, Miranda Lambert, MWK and John Mayer to name but a few.
David Cook and Matt are so different when it comes to genres, but they both write truly amazing songs, if I had to pick a song of David's for Matt to cover it would be, 'Lie.' Acoustically this would be a great song for Matt.
I think Matt could really do a brilliant job of Maroon 5's 'She Will Be Loved.' I think Matt's voice suits ballad type songs, and SWBL is a really emotive song. It would be interesting to hear Matt do a stripped down version of this.
And I know this one if kinda out there but Miranda Lambert's, 'Dead Flowers' I can't give a pacific reason why, but I would just love to hear Matt cover it, plus it's a great song!

Now that you've mentioned that song, I'll have to add this video, it's a cover of the song by an English artist Fyfe Dangerfield - absolutely stunning!! I think if Matt were to cover this song, I can imagine it being like Fyfe's.

In terms of what other artists I like right now, I think they all combine unique voices, strong lyrics and beautiful musical arrangements, just like Matt. I have been loving Colby Caillat and John Mayer for a while, and like the new Sara Bareilles and Maroon 5 music.
The cover part of the question is actually tough for me. I love the creative suggestions for covers people have offered already on this thread, and I hope there is more coming. I'll just add that I loved it when Matt covered Elton John "Benny and the Jets", and could see him doing more Elton songs. I also really liked his "Bad Romance" cover -- I know he did it for laughs, but it had this really interesting jazzy twist to it and sounded really good. So, maybe it is important for him to do surprising covers, too.

OneRepublic and The Fray have been my favorites since their earlier days. And now because of Matt's influence I can't get enough of Gavin DeGraw and Jamie Cullum! I can listen to their music ALL day. Another Matt-influenced newer favorite of mine is Paolo Nutini.
Jenna, I remember we tweeted Matt about covering "Coming Home" on separate occasions! It's a beautiful song that I think he can put his own spin on. Another song I think Matt would sound great covering is "Never Say Never" from The Fray. These songs will allow his voice to soar and still have that emotion we've some to expect from Matt's songs (though I don't want him to over-emote!). These songs also have a lot of room for Matt's piano interpretation. I can see him transforming them and giving them a jazzier twist (csprof, we're thinking alike here!).
I see Matt's style as a rockier version of Jamie Cullum. That's what I'm seeing from his original music and where I think he can make a niche for himself. I think his cover choices and how he transforms them will be a good place for him to express this style of music, because people will have a basis for comparison. So I'm really hoping for more fun Mattified (pop-rock-jazz) covers in his future shows!
Oh, how can I miss mentioning Boyce Avenue, my favorite band for covers (their originals are cool too). They know how to make songs better, sometimes even changing some lyrics. Just check out their "Teenage Dream" cover. I would otherwise never listen to the song. Matt should feel as free when doing covers.

Hahaha yes mattyfan I have wanted him to perform Come Home for a long time! Never Say Never is another great song for him to sing! I agree Mattyfan I am ready for some new covers and of course even more excited for new Matt originals!
Skyler, Lie is one of my favorite songs of David Cook's as well as Permanent and Avalanche! Any of these 3 songs would be great picks for Matt to sing at least IMO!

Speaking of artists Matt has turned us on to... have you listened to Marc Broussard??? I LOVE HIM! I especially love his song, "A Lonely Night in Georgia" and I bet Matt could do a GREAT cover of that song.

I really like One Republic, I think a lot of their songs Matt could cover, I think Apologise would be a good one too.

Avalanche is beautiful, I could see Matt doing that one. Not sure about Permanent though, mainly because it's such a personal song for David and I couldn't imagine anyone putting the same raw emotion into the song.

I agree... It would be something if Matt did a cover of Drake's Find Your Love.. I also think he could pull off some Neyo or maybe an Usher song.

When I listen to the Radio...I am always thinking "How would Matt sound singing this song?"... and my answer is always "I bet Amazing!" LOL
I have thought this when he was on Idol and still to this day. From the Script to Bruno Mars to Drake. I think Matt can really cover about anything and make it sound jazzy & cool.
I love Richard Marx & would love for him to cover a song! As for Elton John, the same, more covers from him. I could probably go on and on.
I love all the suggestions guys! I love reading these... Hope everyone is well & Happy Holidays to you all!
