Matt's Pendant

I don't know if everyone knows about this and I somehow missed it -- I do kind of fall into a Hobbit hole sometimes and miss a lo t of good stuff.

But, I saw this tweet from Matt:

And had to see what he was talking about. Pennyroyal turned out to be a jeweler who made custom designed pendants for the top 8 this year. They are all posted on his website here:

His website says that he sat down with each idol and created their designs based on his conversation with them.

And, am I the last person in the Idol fandom to know about this?

It was fun to me to see all 8 designs.

Oooh I like this one. I know we already picked a pendant for his gift but how about this one? It's a little expensive but if enough of us chip in we could do it.

It's only $125. So if 10-15 of donated it wouldn't be that much at all. The other pendant we are looking at is in the American Idol tour thread. That one is $40 plus another $40 for the chain. So it's really not much more. We could get the cross one for one of the Michigan shows.

I'm going to email this designer and ask him if he could design a pendant with a piano on it and how much it would cost. That would be a great gift for the last show!

I'm sorry, I'm not around much and don't keep up very well, so I'm playing catch-up. I just checked out the gift thread, and really do like the cross, but I like the musical note better. So that's my vote, if that's how you decide.

Either way, I'll send my contribution. Let us know if you don't get enough. Don't carry the extra by yourself!

I think a piano pendant is an excellent idea, especially for the last show.

Oh, and interesting about the scarab having an Egyptian connection. Didn't some people think his ring was some kind of Egyptian eye? (Eye of Horus?) Or maybe he just likes bugs. It just seemed random to me, but whadda I know??? haha

I just sent him an email. LOL he will probably think Matt's fans are some crazy ass people. What I think is great is he already knows Matt and has a sense of his style so he should be able to make us something amazing for Matt! I say we start saving and have him make us one.

I too would like to know what is with the bug? LOL Kris got a musical note and Matt got a bug? Oh well I'm sure there is a reason behind it.

Thanks for the contribution. So far I have $0! But I do have a few people who are planning to contribute. We just have to do it soon! I'd like to be able to buy the gift by next week because they will have to ship it to me and then I'll have to ship it to Oregon!

Lumma you probably won't be able to contribute to this gift but we plan on getting something for 3 other shows as well so you could mail it to whoever is collecting it. But can't you do paypal? I sent you an email (at the email account you registered with)giving you my paypal info.

Here's a pic of a guitar pendant that he made:



He made the background a nice frame for the shape of the guitar, that's about all I can comment on. I don't know where to go from here. I'm not artistic AT ALL!

The good thing is, we have time to put our heads together. I'm 100% behind committing to this. I love pennyroyal's work, and this would be a special gift for Matt.

Oh, the web site does say he will help with the design, so maybe if we tell him we are struggling, he'll offer some suggestions.

He drew up a design and explained it so I thought I'd share so we could discuss it...

I will hand carve the entire thing so it has a nice aged look. some scratches... some of the keys will lay a little crooked, maybe some chips out of the end of a few... like the keyboard on a really old piano that looks like it's been through some stuff. I also think it would be really cool to put some words on the back... sort of a "message from the fans" that he can carry with him as a reminder of how his talent touches people's lives. Something very simple... 5-7 words at the most. I'll let you come up with something meaningful. I won't charge you extra for the words on the back. I think this will be what really makes it meaningful. Let me know what you think. I like it and he really seems to get Matt's style but I really loved the guitar pendant more. Do we want to go with just keys or more like the guitar pendant and have an actual piano? I love the idea of engraving the back of it. What do you think we should say?

Wow, I really love his description of the piano keys. The drawing is plain but when he describes the 3D aspect and the details, it sounds beautiful. I vote for the keys!

On the back you could write "macigirl loves you and my phone number!" hahaha

I love the piano keys too! I think the shape of a baby grand would beautiful but I trust the judgement of the designer. I'm sending some $ now. GREAT idea!
