Our gift for Matt

Hey everyone, I just received an email from the designer who will be making the piano pendant for Matt and he is ready to start on creating it. We are unfortunately short on the money we need. We have approx $175 dollars left since I purchased the first set of gifts. So we need about $125 more. I have decided to not purchase the cross pendant until I know we have enough for the piano one. I hope everyone is in agreement with this? So if you are able to contribute money PM me...even if it's only $5 every little bit helps. Thank you! I know Matt will love this gift. Just in case some of you missed the conversation about gifts. Here is a description of the piano pendant and a rough picture...

I drew up an idea for you (see attached). It would be a small 3D keyboard section hung from the corner so it's really distinct looking. The keyboard itself would be 3D... meaning that the black keys would be higher than the white keys, like on a real keyboard. They will be blackened, but the coloring will be irregular and rubbed off on some parts to look like it's aged. The rough line going down the top right side would be a broken edge similar to the edge on the piece Matt already has (see attached). He really likes the "beat up and aged" look. I will hand carve the entire thing so it has a nice aged look. some scratches... some of the keys will lay a little crooked, maybe some chips out of the end of a few... like the keyboard on a really old piano that looks like it's been through some stuff. I also think it would be really cool to put some words on the back... sort of a "message from the fans" that he can carry with him as a reminder of how his talent touches people's lives. Something very simple... 5-7 words at the most. I'll let you come up with something meaningful. I won't charge you extra for the words on the back. I think this will be what really makes it meaningful. Let me know what you think.

Oh we also need to decide what we will engrave on the back. Any ideas?

For the back, I think something about his passion and talent would be wonderful, ya know how we believe in him. But I don't know how to put that in 5-7 words lol!

That's what I was thinking but I'm not very poetic so please people don't leave this to me. Give me some ideas! If left up to me it would probably say something idiotic and simple like We love your passion and talent.

And I agree, the engraving should be short and sweet. Maybe look back at some of his interviews throughout Idol, and possibly before, and pick out keywords that he has used over & over to describe his emotions and feelings throughout this whole journey????

You two crack me up - I love it when he says "I just wanna saaang". How is it remotely possible to write 5 short words that sums up what we have spent almost 2 months and thousands and thousands of words to express. In random order this is how I feel Talent+Soul+Personality+Looks=Matty G

Hopefully this will spark some ideas. Also, if we can't think of a phrase, perhaps coming up with 5 adjectives to describe him such as: Genuine, Talented, Loved, Driven, Soulful

I love, love, love "We Found You". It's a very witty response to one of his and our favorite songs and it shows our happiness in discovering him. Very clever!

It's quite the challenge to find only 5 words to describe how we feel about Matt.

I was hoping there would be some appropriate lyrics from the songs he performed.

My favorite so far: "Just an old sweet song"

a slight variation of My Funny Valentine

or "Go ahead and let the light shine through" or abbreviated version "... let the light shine through"

Jenna, I think we need to narrow down our choices, then have a poll with our top 5 quotes.

Good idea Riley. So everyone narrow it down to five. Let' keep with the ideas until the end of the weekend and then on Monday narrow it down to five and I'll set it up in a poll.

Yay for $210!! I like the idea of giving it to Matt at Grand Rapids. And sgr91's photo book for the Detroit show will make these stops in his home state very meaningful.

We can come up with an inexpensive gift idea for the last show that will still be great. I will put on my thinking cap!
