Very excited to hear his new songs! Just 2 more weeks guys and we will have new music! This show is going to be amazing. Still need someone to volunteer to broadcast for cellcert Nov show! Don't you guys want to hear it?

I might. I'm not sure about that one. I'm still learning the biz myself. I'm looking into management right now so they might have a whole plan for me ya know? S hopefully I don't have t make EVERY choice myself!! As for music, I wanna make sure it's quality and that might take time. But I'll have it out soon as I can

So glad he answered this question, regarding putting music on myspace & whatnot.

And this one...

Quote :
No big label yet. I'm not in a hurry for that kind of pressure yet anyway. I'm working on an album just like I have a label waiting. I want the right deal and I think after they hear the stuff I'm working on, they'll be down. But I SO appreciate the signmattgiraud campaign and I wanna say thanks to the people that push that. They take notice This business is tough and people get chewed up and spit out sometimes but I'm confident that people haven't seen nothin' yet! Smile

...& THIS ONE! About the cris sligh blog...

Quote :
I actually liked his recordings and bought his album but I'll always remember him for that blog. Some of the advice was good but not for me. I have more to offer than a little fame. I'm an artist. That's all. Not someone desperate for fame or anything else.

Oooh! & this cause I was submitting this same question.

Quote :
Here is a twitter question:
@BGHolly: You tweeted about a song you wrote and you said we'd hear it on TV. Can we have more details on that?

Matt Giraud: Yeah the song I wrote with Featherstone called Motel is going to be great. With her vocal on it, It's gonna rock. A LOT of her songs make it on tv so who knows?? Smile

kay, I think I'm done... Smile

I'm very happy with Matt's answers to the Qs, specifically the ones Crys highlighted and more:

-Matt Giraud: This business is tough and people get chewed up and spit out sometimes but I'm confident that people haven't seen nothin' yet!

-Matt Giraud: Don't put me in a box, I might jump out! just don't want to sell out and I want to continue my dream of traveling the country and playing music for people everywhere

And this one, which I think is important for perspective when judging the Idols as to whether they're a success or not. People don't need to be a "Daughtry" in order to be considered a success in the biz.:

-Matt Giraud: yes I read it and he should shut it. haha I kid! Yeah I read it. At first it was depressing and I kind of thought about it a lot. But then I thought I'm much better off then I was before Idol and after Priscilla Presley had me play her party and I played another for the Beckhams in Napa Valley..I thought I'm not doing so bad. so I won't pay much attention to him. If he wants to piano duel, I'll show him what's up haha
-Matt Giraud: I actually liked his recordings and bought his album but I'll always remember him for that blog. Some of the advice was good but not for me. I have more to offer than a little fame. I'm an artist. That's all. Not someone desperate for fame or anything else.

I haven't in the past and won't be in the future agonizing much on the question of a major label deal. It's just too painful to wait... Of course, we'd all be very ecstatic when it happens -- finally a HUGE recognition and pat on the back for all of Matt's hard work and talent. Frankly, I just want Matt to make awesome music and to keep touring so we can see his show. I'm glad he mentioned Nashville and L.A. Just a couple of weeks to go till his solo show and we'll finally get to hear his new songs!!!

PostSubject: Re: Discuss Matt's Live Chat here!   Discuss Matt's Live Chat here! I_icon_minitimeThu Nov 05, 2009 11:35 pm

Now that I've had a chance to digest some of what Matt said during chat, I thought to myself, what have I learned?

1. He is looking into management - which I'm really happy about because I think a young artist needs guidance from someone who knows the business side of music

2. Definitive answer re: where he stands with the recording contract - he once again reitirated that he is not looking for any deal but a deal that will allow him to make the music that he wants to make. I am torn on the whole "don't put me in a box" comment because on the one hand, I truly appreciate how important it is for him to be able to represent himself in his music but at the same time, that was always the criticism from the judges on AI - that for the record companies to know how to promote him, he needed to pick a recognizable style. I sometimes think that Matt definitely has a unique style but its tough for him to put it into words and translate it to people who ask him what that style is.

3. He is planning to go to Nashville "in a few days" - good for those who were nervous to know that that particular collaboration is still on. He also dropped a name of a writer he is working with (Marcus Hummon who co-wrote God Blessed the broken road). Matt mentioned Rascall Flatts before- I almost wonder if that is who his duet is with (I'm not sure its still a duet if its with a group - someone can correct me).

4. He continues to love his fans and everything they do for him - from the signmattgiraud campaing to the gifts he receives (sounds like he liked our book).

5. He wears boxer briefs for those for whom this was a critical question - I already concluded that after my study of his tour video and the tour pants (I can prove it - just ask Jenna)

6. I was reminded again why I fell in love with Matt and his music - when he said this
Quote :
People always say music is about them and their self expression but for me music is about what I can do for someone else. Move them, inspire them, take them somewhere in their head that they love to be. Thats what music does for me.

I remember seeing that passion for music when he spoke about it during his audition and that never waned during the last year. I know that if he gets an opportunity to put out the music that is in his heart and soul, it will be something that will touch our souls and inspire us and I'm anxiously awaiting that moment.

Any thoughts on this long soliloque?

Thanks so much to all for posting this transcript! Pheww. I finally got to read it all and analyze it.

You know... I am glad to be a Matt G fan because he clearly loves music with all his heart and is willing to perform and make music for almost nothing in exchange. So I applaud that. People like him deserve all the success in the world. I just pray and pray someday someone out there will give him a chance.

At least this time around Matt was straight forward with us about the deal thing and basically said there is no record label at the moment interested. That bothers me so much! How can someone as talented and with so much potential like Matt still be in limbo! And oh yeah, Sarver got signed first! The world is nuts, that's all I am saying.

Sigh.. I will admit I was kinda hoping Matt would give us some real good news about a deal. But oh well. I guess the wait will be longer than I thought.
Hopefully these upcoming shows give him some buzz again despite only being local gigs... But, at least there will be new songs on you tube that scouts can see.
Maybe Matt's problem is what sgr said earlier about not sticking to a specific genre. I know he doesn't want to be put in a box but the reality is in order to make it in the music business he has to make a decision. It's just the way it is. Period.

I am glad he is looking for a manager! IMO He really needs one.
Matt is very talented but he certainly needs someone to guide him and help him on what to do next. Like Anoop, he should be moving to LA soon. JMHO.

It broke my heart when he said he was very happy for his fellow Idols and that he loved Kris, Adam's and Allison's songs. He said it was so special to see many idols from his season doing well. He also should have gotten signed like all those three. Why did that never happen? I dunno, all I know is this:

Good things happen to good people and it just has to happen to Matt someday. I will be here always waiting for that day. Discuss Matt's Live Chat here! Icon_sunny

That chat was a great to read.
I loved the way how he descriped his working on an album and his whole attitude to deals. It really feels right.
Also loved to read about his working methods and piano playing.
Management great and necessary. About that putting on a box,I guess we live in a boxy world but does it really mean anything? The way things are going, him approaching "them" with his songs I´m sure they will invent a big enough box for Matt if necessary. Music is his craft and I am confident he will be busy with that. Can´t wait to hear his music.
And his view of what music is about is the best ever!

Thank you for the links. This aunty likes Paolo Nutini! Couple of nice quotes:
Quote :
"Musically where I'm at, I don't really have a genre or style that I feel a part of," explains Paolo. "I skip from Djhango Reinhart to Cab Calloway to Canned Heat. It's a bit of a random mish mash. I honestly wanted it all to come out, and not harness it, not manipulate it. I just wanted it to be organic, and so immediate it's in your face and you can't help but take it all in."
and

Quote :
Paolo's deep love of music is reflected in an album that is almost unfashionably eclectic, reaching deep into the roots of modern music. It is strange to hear a 22 year old 21st century pop star raving about Cab Calloway, Wynonie Harris and Louis Armstrong. "If I could lay it down and give you my favourite vocalists, its those old ragtime swing crazy mad cats. These old songs are nice and sweet but scratch them and you get a different perspective. That's what I wanted."
Smile

I think once Matt starts making music, he himself will define his "box". They all eventually find their distinctive style. We all know he's no karaoke singer. He's got that huge task of defining himself to the music world. That's why I can't wait for his music and for him to start touring!

Wow..I really like these quotes from this Paolo guy because I think it really reflects what kind of artist/musician that Matt is and the way he also feels about music...I personally really liked this chat because I think this is one of the first times that Matt explained himself extremely well in how he feels about his music and fame and what he wants and doesn't want. I think now I'm going to be able to just "put aside" ALL my thoughts and/or worries about Matt getting signed to a label right now because I think eventually Matt will get picked up (it might take awhile) but I truly think even if he doesn't get signed by a label he will still go the independent route and will put out a KILLER album and his fans will love it!! Will he be some big recording artist in the top 40 and on the radio constantly?? maybe not BUT I don't think that is what Matt is striving for anyways....he just wants to make good, heartfelt music and entertain people and make a decent living at it..and that is why I love Matt so much because he is such a humble, passioniate person with a great SOUL! I will just wait patiently for whatever he does put out and I will continue to travel to see him in concerts and support him anyway I can! I think Matt is really happy right now so I'm going to choose to be happy for him! I love you Smile

This chat made me so happy. Lots of good info about his plans for the future, how he views music, and I was particularly interested in the question about how he learns songs on the piano without reading music. I also just loved what a good sport he was...the mole joke, for example haha He just seemed like he was having a good time chatting with his fans and not like it was some obligation...another reason why I love him so much

I was going to go into a long analysis of this transcript, but I think a lot of what I had to say was already covered, so instead I'm just going to say that this chat made me love Matt even MORE. I didn't think that was possibly but there it is.

He was extremely savvy during the entire thing, and I think his answers to a number of questions went a ways in allaying some fears and reminded people just why Matt is so very special/fab.

At a time when so many are quick to sell out and at a time when it would be easy for him to do the same, he's holding firm in his commitment to try and make GOOD music. That says a heck of lot about who he is as a person and artist and adds to the excitement/anticipation I feel for his future album(s). Very Happy
