Not sure how I feel about what they said about Matt. It's definitely a compliment that he was mentoned and a testimony to his talent that he is mentioned at all since he hasn't released a product yet. And of course I love that the author feels he will have a long career in the music industry but why did he/she have to say he is unlikely to be a music super star?For me this comment made what he/she said seem like a backwards compliment you know? But is this true? I'm leaning towards yes because let's face it Matt is no Lady Gaga, Bieber, Brittany Spears...thank god! I think I prefer him having a long respected career in the music business than be a flash in the pan kind of artist like the so called artists today that are considered to be our super stars. So I guess I feel pretty good about the article after all. Any thoughts?

That's great to see Matt's talent recognized! I wish he sees that and gets inspired by it.

I think what the writer's really measuring is commercial success rather than talent. Obviously there are very few huge successes (Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry, JHud), some fairly good ones and minor ones that only the devoted Idol fans even know about. I don't personally think they're the most talented or interesting contestants ever on A. Idol.

I agree that Matt can make a good life-long career out of music if he wants to. I really hope he wants it coz there are so many fans out there like us just waiting. The "superstar" part though seems 90% luck.

Matt may not have released music and went on a wide world tour but he hasn't yet had to get a day job...so i guess that's something. I know many of us want more including myself but I guess it's a good thing that he is still able to make money as a working musician. Hopefully one day we will get that CD and tour. As long as he is still having shows I will keep going and bringing back video for you guys!

It's comforting to know Matt is able to support himself with music! He has so much more potential. This is just the beginning.

I don't know if it is just my perception, but it seems Matt is getting more recognition this year related to AI than he did before. People keep mentioning him every time someone plays a piano, during the recent save, or whenever someone sings a song that Matt did better. Could it be that slowly people are recognizing his talent? I also read often about the talent of "the Top 5" of Season 8, even though Matt has not done as much as the other four.


Matt needs to release music, and then we'll see what happens. I think it would be impossible to give a negative review to Matt's music. What is there to criticize? Given what his music does to those of us who know about it, his success would be limited by how many people hear about the music.


Jenna, I think Matt will never be a pop star, but if he was pointed in the right direction, I could see him being as successful as Josh Groban or Michael Buble. Matt, while also old school in some ways, is more current than either of them, and they have somehow managed to have at least a little impact on the pop world.

I think Matt has made so many good decisions since Idol. He began writing music right away, he continues to have and perform at private events, his collaborations with Anna Wilson and Jim Brickman was genius! These collaborations allowed him to perform at the Grand Ole Opry and given him a top 20 radio hit...how amazing is that? He has done a great job keeping his name out there and busy. Now I just wish he'd release his music! I agree Csprof he will get amazing reviews because his music is really incredible and meaningful unlike most of the dreck being released today. I just don't understand what the hold up is? I wish he would talk about music again.

I agree Csprof, Matt will never be a pop star and I can't say that disappoints me. I am so glad Matt took his time creating his music and that he has stayed true to the musician he wants to be rather than creating music to fit in with what's popular.
