The West Valley City, UT Show

YFM is one of those songs I used to loathe. I would change the radio station when it came on before the first line was uttered. I wanted no part of hearing it. Isaac's voice is just too whiny and flat for me. But...

Matt made me do a 180 on that song. He added more to the melody, infused the lyrics with feeling and passion that I'd previously been unable to detect, and his voice just brought the song to life in general. Sometimes it just takes the right person to bring out the best in a song. I mean, sure Prince wrote and recorded "Nothing Compares 2 U", but it was Sinead O'Conner that made it a classic.

I've always thought that Matt's version was MUCH better than the Fray's. It's not just me, though, my whole family likes Matt's version better and my son has even turned a few of his friends onto it. I love what he does at the end.

Man Salt Lake City sucks with giving us contraband. I can't even find any reviews. Was there even a concert there last night? Even Adam only has 3 videos that I can find.

OvenMitt, I swear I was going to post the same thing about The Fray's version, but then I read and agreed with everything you said! Great minds think alike! LOL

I have recorded all of The Fray's hit songs on video, and I totally agree that Isaac's voice is TOO WHINY! It's difficult to explain, but if you compare Matt's version to Isaac's, you can tell the difference. IMO, Matt's version is superior because Matt has a deeper, bluesy quality to his singing voice, which I prefer. That's why I was confused when the judges said that Matt sounded too much like Isaac when he sang YFM on Top Downloads night. I was like "HUH?" The radio stations were playing that song every 5 minutes last spring, and Matt didn't sound anything like Isaac! Was it Kara or Paula who said Matt was trying to sound "gravelly" like Isaac? No, Isaac has never sounded "gravelly" on any of The Fray's songs. Again, just my opinion here, but Matt at least makes the song sound more challenging by changing keys, tempo, etc. Isaac's voice sounds a little monotonous to me. No offense to The Fray because I still think they are very talented. They wouldn't have a record contract and been so successful if they weren't talented.

I will listen to Matt's version only, not the original. And I'm not just saying that because I think Matt is WAAAAAAY HOTTER than Isaac! Ha-ha!

By the way, maybe there hasn't been a lot of video from Utah because the venue prohibited video cameras? I know there was a No Video Camera policy at the Vancouver show! Let's hope something turns up with Matt in it.

Well I don't know if this is the right place to post this...But since we are waiting for more stuff to come in here i'll just post it here...lol....

But what do you guys think about this?? ...You know how much Ellen loved Matt right...well I think we should all start sending emails or shouts out to Ellen (I don't know how you contact her "people") but anyways I think we should keep telling Ellen that once Matt gets off the tour that she should REALLY have Matt on there again to sing "Hard to Handle"...he would drive the women CrAzY there that day!!! She would love it too since she likes to dance and stuff.....I think all the continued media publicity after Matt gets off the tour is gonna be awesome....Even though I know he will be in great demand...I think we should make sure another Ellen appearance happens for him!!! Just a thought..

Lisa_M, I read one fan report that said Megan did receive a warm welcome from her home state crowd, but the audience was overwhelmingly in favor of Adam (what else is new?).

And I love the idea of asking Ellen for another Matt guest appearance! You could tell she genuinely loved Matt; it wasn't like she was just being polite to him. After I saw her crawl on top of the piano and stare into his eyes, I thought she had a major crush on him (yes, I know she like girls LOL). I really believe that Ellen would invite Matt back to her show if he had a solo album to promote. I know that the tour won't end until September, but maybe we should send Ellen some e-mails throughout the summer?

Now I'm not encouraging spam e-mails. Let's write some thoughtful e-mails to her and be polite. I don't want us Matt fans to seem crazy or annoying! I know that Ellen doesn't read the e-mails herself, but maybe the interns who do read the mail will notice us if there are a lot of requests. Please write coherently and be respectful if you decide to send her an e-mail. I don't want Matt fans to sound like: "OMG!!!!! Matt is sssssssssssssssooooooooooooooooo HOTTTT! I'm gonna marry him! Love, the-future- Mrs. Matt Giraud." Ha-ha! [We don't sound like that, right?]

I think the easiest way to e-mail Ellen is through her show's official web site. Go to: www.ellen.warnerbros.com, then click on the link at the bottom of the page that says EMAIL ELLEN. Then you have to fill out a brief form before you can add your comments. I think we should do this and mention how much everyone enjoys Matt's performances on tour. You never know what requests will catch the eye of her producers.

BTW, thank you jenna for that lovely picture of Matt on page 2 of this thread. How can it be that this guy keeps getting hotter looking every day? His hair, skin, face, clothes, everything looked perfect in that photo. Wow!

That was the first time that I even heard the original!
I like Matt's version a whole better!
I did noticed that the lead singer started in a lower key than Matt cause he starts in a higher key!
Also Matt makes the song more exciting to listen to and puts more soul in it!
