I am curious to see who has listened to and/or bought all of Matt's music, both Pre-Idol and current. I myself have purchased both his CDs, all his iTunes recordings, and even obtained an audio of "First Impression", as well as the "Tell Her About It" duet with Scott MacIntyre. My observation is that Matt has grown by leaps and bounds from Perspective to Mind, Body & Soul to his run on Idol. Even though his voice is distinct from the start, you can hear how it's matured, and how he's learned to control it and add dimension and nuance to his singing. It's also interesting that he started out with a very urban flavor to his music, and has since expanded and shifted his sensibilities to a variety of styles while still injecting his signature soulfulness into each song. These are very generalized observations, but I have to say I'm impressed with Matt's rapid growth and his adeptness at understanding and interpreting music in just a few short years. I'd love to hear what the rest of you think of Matt's musical catalogue!

I of course bought all of his American Idol songs and I also have Tell Her About it, but if I'm honest I didn't purchase his music before idol except for two songs...So You and Too Many Nights. I did listen to both CD's but they are too urban for me. I really don't like hiphop or R&B...sorry. What I love about So You is it's simplicity, acoustic feel, and his vulnerability. Too Many Nights is just soul shattering. The lyrics, music, and his interpretation are just brilliant...such an emotional heart wrenching song! I wonder if he wrote or co-wrote those two songs?

I agree he has definitely come a long way musically. What I find amazing is how realitively new he is to all of this and just how amazing he has become in a few short years. I remember hearing once that a musician can improve his craft up until about 10 years but once he hits that 10 year benchmark they have pretty much improved as much as they are going to. If this is true just think how amazing he will be in just 5 more years.

I think Matt has amazing ability to interpret music but what is even more exciting for me is that he has this ability to reach out to the audience and seize their hearts with just his sheer passion alone, but then you add in that soulful velvety voice and that piano playing and it is just complete magic! Like Paula said and Simon agreed with...Matt is a heart piercer. Matt is a consummate story teller and performer. I get more excited every day to witness his career take off.

I have all of Matt's idol music but have not purchased his other 2 CDs. But, but, but I have listened to the songs countless times online (thanks youtube!) I really love one man audience and i'm sorry, but I really like all of the songs. While I know his voice has really matured and he has come a long away (I do agree!), I really, really do like his older stuff!! I enjoy the vulnerability and "youth" in his voice. And this makes me SO much more excited for an upcoming album because I think it will be outstanding. What impresses me most is the amount of experience he already has in terms of song writing and putting together an album (and even music videos hehe Smile ) While he may not have sold millions of copies, I think he is miles ahead of all of the other contestants in terms of writing beautiful music and putting together an album his fans can really appreciate while remaing 100% true to himself. I'm sure by now he has gotten all the kinks out and knows the do's and don't's of making good music Smile

Hehe, my sister shares a room with me and she could tell ya that! I love Matt's voice and think he does an excellent job in EVERY song he sings (pre-idol, and current!) I totally agree on everything you said and am looking forward in hearing what Matt's music brings us in the future! Smile
