Trending #signmattgiraud on August 20th/Tweeting Record Labels

Hey guys! Long time no talk!

So, since Matt's contract is up on August 20th, how do ya'll feel about trying to trend #signmattgiraud again on that day?

I think we could make it happen! We can also tweet the record companies, etc.

The only thing is, when tweeting the record companies I think we definitely could be smarter about it.

I would suggest in addition to the #signmattgiraud tag, we always try to include a link to Matt's Twitter pg, and a link to either a performance/recording he's done and/or a great review he's gotten for his performance/set on tour so far.

The record companies don't want to have to do work to find who/what we're talking about...and we shouldn't assume that they already know.

I would also suggest that we only tweet one (or two record companies at the same time, provided they're under the same company, so tweeting @Universal_Music & @Interscope would work because Interscope is an imprint of Universal Music), rather than tweeting a bunch at them at the same time (e.g. WarnerMusic, Sony, Universal, etc) and just putting #signmattgiraud at the beginning and/or end. because that ends up looking/reading like spam.

I don't think we need to go toooo crazy with tweeting the record companies on August 20th b/c they honestly don't get that many tweets to begin with so anything sent to them likely gets seen/read.

Plus, at best, a Digital PR person is running the Twitter account, at worse an intern is, so it might be better to treat them like humans, not a company & tweet them like you would an individual person as opposed to a corporation. It makes it even more likely that they will maybe be more receptive and tell their higher ups about our efforts/this guy name Matt Giraud that so many peeps are digging. (It might be helpful to think in terms of "what would someone have to tell to you/do to effectively "sell" you something/someone?" B/c that's what we're trying to do here in getting Matt signed asap).

& if you're following Interscope they're probably following you back, so remember anything you tweet generally about Matt and/or to any friends that Interscope also happens to be following, will get seen by them.

Thanks slick! That's great advice...we don't want to come across like spam. We actually want them to check Matt Giraud out! I will definitely remember that when tweeting them. I'll post a link to a song and a great review from tour! Woo! This is exciting!

Yes! Y'all are awesome...just like the man. Please do what you can to spread the word (especially if you can't participate yourself) cause obviously the more the merrier!

& get those great reviews/performances etc. ready to tweet to the record companies too.

I don't know I am definitely all for trying to get him trending again but I don't think it's a great idea to spam record labels. JMO.

That's what I'm going to do and maybe send one tweet to each label...kind of like slick said. I don't think it is wise to over tweet the record labels. Just like it's not wise to over request a song on radio. DJ's get pissed at spamming and I'm assuming record labels would too.

Alright guys I have a real stupid question here, What in the world does the "#" mean b4 everything on twitter? It's driving me crazy and I know it's going to be something real easy so I already feel stupid .
