Question of the Week #12 Empty
PostSubject: Question of the Week #12   Question of the Week #12 I_icon_minitimeSun Apr 17, 2011 6:17 pm

So I haven't seen much talk about Matt's new song "Dreams" and I am so curious to know what people think about it because I absolutely love it!!! I love the lyrics and I absolutely love when Matt and Sweet J start rocking out! Kind of reminds me of "Brand New Day", which is one of my favorite Matt songs! I love how the song builds up! Matt is such a great story teller with his music! "Dreams" is also definitely one of my favorites now! So what do you guys think about it?

If you haven't seen the the thread where the lyrics are posted check here...

I like the lyrics to the song a lot. I think he is a great writer. I sent part of the lyrics to a few friends and asked them what they thought about them. They liked it and want to hear the song now. I am going to show them the song tomorrow.

PostSubject: Re: Question of the Week #12   Question of the Week #12 I_icon_minitimeMon Apr 18, 2011 6:51 am

I love the song. Musically, I love the way it builds and the guitar solo. Sam sounds great! It has strong lyrics, and an interesting twist on not having his sad dream come true because he got the girl. It is like a double negative that is turned into a positive in a surprising way. But I think the best part is the hook because I kept hearing it in my head all day after listening to the song just twice.

Another potential hit -- I would buy it if I could!

I already know this will be one of my favorite Matt G songs! The melody pulls me. And I really like that he doesn't get gospelly on it. He sings it like he does "I Miss You Tonight" and "Always Remember You", just poppish/rockish and that's what I like best.

Hats off to those who figured out the lyrics! One of the things that struck me on Matt's AI performances and studio recordings was his clear enunciation of words. Somehow over time, this seems to have changed? Doesn't really bother me too much but couldn't help but notice.

I like the simple yet powerful lyrics as well.

PostSubject: Re: Question of the Week #12   Question of the Week #12 I_icon_minitimeTue Apr 19, 2011 5:39 pm

Funny that you said that Mattyfan because I put Dreams in with Brand New Day, I'll Always Remember you, and I Miss You Tonight too! I love Matt's pop/rock flavor but I love songs like I'll Hold On To You, Breaking In A Broken Heart, and 4 AM too! But Dreams and Brand New Day are my favorite Matt songs!

Yeah I' m not sure why he slurred his words so much? It's a new song so maybe he was having trouble remembering the lyrics? If you listen to the Church version and the K-zoo version he sang different lyrics towards the end of the song. This is where the lyrics are different...

The dream I had before you __________ every day __________ saw you Was a million miles away

Makes it hard to figure out because we don't know which ones are correct! Also I think at K-zoo he sang it clearer! That's why we need a studio version of this song...like today!!!

Another song I adore! I seriously love all of his songs. I need to look on the Lyrics as I really enjoy his storytelling as well. This song I just want to blast as loud as I can get it! Wink When he played it I turned to Jenna with a huge smile on my face! The build up is incredible reminds me of 3 Doors Down.

I agree that we need a studio version so we can truly appreciate it! Sam's solo is heaven. The band is just so talented it is hard not to love the song even more.

I can't wait to purchase dozens of copies of Matt's EP...I hope it is coming soon! I love you

Oh, that elusive EP. Guys, any news yet?? I looked at my iTunes and I have a looooooooong list of Matt Giraud songs and many are originals. Wow, it's amazing he still doesn't have an album out and isn't touring. What is he waiting for? I probably shouldn't be posting this! I don't want to drag down anyone, please don't be influenced by my down phase. It's just SO frustrating, I need to express it. Ok, I really need to distract myself with other things. Love you, all my fellow MattG fans. This will pass....

Aww mattyfan never apologize for expressing how you feel! We know you love him Smile I get frustrated too but I imagine its even more frustrating for the fans who live so far from Michigan! I am hoping and praying he releases something soon and gets his talented self out of Michigan for awhile!

Holley as always I love reading your posts! I saw you look at me and it was a great moment but of course anytime matt gives us new music it is incredible! Matt's music never disappointments me! I just wish more people could hear it!

PostSubject: Re: Question of the Week #12   Question of the Week #12 I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 22, 2011 2:04 am

I picked Tre up at his house and then we went out to eat for a late lunch/early dinner before Matt's show at the airport. He actually was the one to bring up the album and said Matt is just such a perfectionist, he's not gonna release any of his own music until he thinks it's PERFECT. Also, I'm just wondering if he's thinking about including songs on the album that no one has ever heard just to surprise us? I mean, did anyone know he was working on new songs before Dreams was debuted? I know I didn't... So I think it's a combination of those things. Who knows? Smile

Question of the Week #12 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Question of the Week #12   Question of the Week #12 I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 22, 2011 6:47 pm

I guess the question then becomes what is perfection for Matt? I sure hope he's hard at work on his craft. I'm not surprised he's written "Dreams". In fact, I expect that he's always (at least often) writing new songs 'coz that's what passionate artists do. I suspect though, Matt's "perfect" has a lot to do with being assured he'll have a hit or recognition. Sadly, Idol history has shown that not even a major label deal can guarantee success on the radio, in sales or in terms of industry recognition. There are no assurances, so it'll boil down to having enough passion to take risks and not being deterred should it fail.

I miss the old Matt, fresh out of Idol, who sounded like he was going to do everything he could to get out there with his music. I know, this is so out of topic on this thread, but too lazy to make a new one! Smile

Remember this?
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20275995_3,00.html

Are you planning on moving to Los Angeles now?
It all depends on what kind of opportunities I have. I don't think there's much left for me in Kalamazoo except family and friends. In terms of musical career, there's not much left there. If there are some bands that would maybe like me to open for them, I would be out here in a heartbeat. I'm willing to pay my dues in the industry.

Who would you like to hook up with?
I'd love to open for Gavin DeGraw or the Fray, go on the road. That would be a dream come true.

And is that the kind of music you still envision putting on an album?
That kind of music, but with a jazzy twist.

Are these still Matt's dreams? What does he really want? So, what can WE do?? Does he want us to find him an established artist/band for him to open for? Is he willing to work hard and not get paid? Just rambling a bunch of open-ended questions...

Question of the Week #12 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Question of the Week #12   Question of the Week #12 I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 22, 2011 8:06 pm

Mattyfan all those questions are good ones and believe me I ask myself the same questions all the time! I have also thought the same thing about Matt not releasing his music because he is not sure it will become a hit. Without a label backing him most likely it won't Sad sad but true! I guess my question is...why not release it for the fans who have been waiting so long for his music? He has said he has recorded it so why not make it available to download? I see tweets and facebook messages all the time asking him when will his music be available? What does he have to lose? I mean either he releases it and maybe has a hit or not or he doesn't release it and doesn't have a hit! So either way he doesn't have a hit. Whereas if he releases it at least he has some chance! Hahaha did that even make sense? I guess only Matt and the people close to him understand but I can tell you I wish I could too!

The music industry sucks! What is the worlds fascination with shitty music? I think Matt was born in the wrong era! If he was born in the 60-70's he would have been huge! The buying public just doesn't want good quality meaningful music now! Now it's pretty much all garbage that is selling! The thing is Matt could still have a great career as an indie artists with a large audience in Michigan but outside Michigan as well. Everyone I introduce Matt to loves his voice and thinks he is very talented! If he would just venture out of Michigan every now and then and release his music! I realize it's not as easy as it sounds to release music and tour but other musicians manage to do it. Like you said mattyfan it takes hard work, determination, and willingness to have set backs and rejections. Guess being an indie artist is not for everyone Smile

Sadly, from Matt's speech (at the last show) about loving Michigan and not wanting to leave, I gathered that he doesn't intend to venture out of Michigan anytime soon and perhaps never. He seems to like being a local musician and nothing is wrong with that especially if it makes him happy and he can support himself but for the fans who can't see him it sucks! I kind of wish he would just come out and tell us that he loves what he does now and not to exepect a CD or tour... if that is his plan?

Oh and I would love for him to open for another artist but really what is the point if you don't have a product out? What would he have to give the new fans he would make? LOL a link here to download bootleg MP3's?

I guess what we have to ask ourselves is do we still want to support him and stay fans if he decides he wants to stay a local artist? I know my answer is yes because his music is so important to me and makes me happy!

Question of the Week #12 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Question of the Week #12   Question of the Week #12 I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 22, 2011 9:21 pm

Jenna, thank you for your reply! You really get it. After almost 2 years, it's become quite obvious this is what Matt wants. I know I just have to accept it. I think our only chance of seeing him on tour in the short-term is if Anna Wilson takes him along last-minute. Not likely. I'm very disappointed that the fans out there don't seem to be enough motivation for Matt. Michigan seems to be it. Even when he travels to other states for private events or recording, he doesnt seem interested in setting up little gigs for local fans. Whatever happened to "paying the dues?" I guess all there is for many of us is to support him when he has something out there to support, then in the meantime just take some distance and not expect. We gotta save ourselves from frustration and heartache too, some self preservation LOL! That's why the videos you bring back and post on YouTube are treasures!

It is very misleading when Matt tells people his EP or live dvd is coming out "soon". He really needs to stop with the false hopes. That's all.

Question of the Week #12 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Question of the Week #12   Question of the Week #12 I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 22, 2011 9:53 pm

Hi Jenna and mattyfan,

Yesterday's deleted rant from me was about Matt's website. I think the River City Studios releases at least are delayed because he needs a website to promote the music, and he doesn't have one. He claimed months ago that it was almost done. But where is it? I think he is afraid to put anything out there, even a website, although I'm not sure why.

I think Matt has a dream to be bigger than a Michigan artist, but he doesn't seem to know how to do it and doesn't seem to want to give up this dream by releasing music in a way that won't sell. So he just keeps doing what he's doing.

I figured out when "no later than Valentine's Day" on releasing music came and went that this is all there is with Matt. Maybe he will release music some day, maybe he won't, but it won't be anytime soon.

And mattyfan, if you've noticed, he hasn't said anything about releasing music for a while. I think he has stopped making promises he has no plans to keep.

I am one of his fans here in CA who last saw him perform during the AI tour. He's so talented he just need a break, did he consider getting a professional manager who can manage his career? I just hope he'll have more determination and passion, I'm still patiently waiting for anything he has to release in the future.

Its good to see you post Bianca and I'm glad you are still here!

Matt is lucky that his fans are so devoted and supportive but of course we wouldn't be if he wasn't so talented and created such incredible music. Sometimes it is hard and frustrating to follow a musician who hasn't been signed. The waiting game is nerve wracking and heart wrenching!

Mattyfan and Csprof every other day I am exactly where you are at but then I remember how much his music means to me! There isn't a day that goes by that I don't listen to his music. I know it is so much easier for me because I get to see him perform live but you guys are such amazing fans please don't give up now! I am glad the videos we bring back help to keep you guys tuned into Matt! I totally understand your frustration because I feel it a lot too!

Csprof I agreed with a lot of what you said in your last post! He wouldn't have went on American Idol if all he wanted was to be a local artist. I wonder what happened? I do remember that interview you posted mattyfan and I too wonder what happened for him to make a complete turn around? Your right Bianca he does need a break!

PostSubject: Re: Question of the Week #12   Question of the Week #12 I_icon_minitimeSat Apr 23, 2011 4:32 am

Bianca, Matt has a professional manager, but his background is as a booking agent in West Michigan, so that is why most of what Matt is doing is concerts in West Michigan. He needs a manager who has worked in the recording industry, has national radio contacts, etc., but I doubt he sees that. It of course costs real money to have a manager like that, and it is a risk if you can't make it back.

And Jenna and mattyfan, I think Matt doesn't know how to go from where he is now to where he wants to go. If he had a plan, he could execute it. It seems like he stops and starts plans and then rethinks them, over and over. He seems to think he is going to release music and then he doesn't, for example. What is holding back the River City Studios releases? It is not that they need to be perfect, since they are already recorded (and they are perfect!). He said he was going to release those back in the fall. What happened?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought a management firm is on a commission basis? Or does the artist have to pay them a retainer's fee regardless if they are able to book them a gig or not? Anyway I understand your frustrations, as fans we only want what we feel is best for Matt. If not California, Nashville is also a good place for budding artists, he can start by doing shows at small clubs, he used to go there frequently I hope he considered moving there even for just a year and try if there'll be opportunities. But if he really wants to just stay in Michigan then we can't do anything about it. I'll just visit this site very often to check on youtube videos of his performances.

I asked this in another thread (Matt's horoscope sign) does he have a girlfriend? Maybe that is one of the reason why he does not want to leave Michigan.

If it's a good manager that Matt needs, it's hard to believe he doesn't have access to one. He has made friends with industry people who can help him find the right person. Maybe he just needs to devote time and energy to it, and it'll be good to lower expectations. Artists always say they just do it for music. So it shouldn't matter if it's a tour to sell-out crowds or to a handful of people at a time. How else can one build a fanbase? In any case, the money comes in through private gigs which a good manager can also get. Another Idol favorite has had private gigs non-stop since he left the show 3 years ago. He may not be visible to the public but he is very well provided for and is able to cater to his devoted fans, releasing an album and touring. Right now, sorry to admit but Matt doesn't seem to have the passion needed. It's really too bad coz he's got enormous potential. He just needs to seize it. Maybe someday.

I loved that tweet from him mattyfan! It kind of gave me hope that he wants to take his music to the next level and is making plans to continue making music for a long time!

I agree he needs a good manager that has contacts outside of Michigan, with radio, and other people in the music industry. His music is just so incredible I want the world to hear it!

Bianca this is Matt's girlfriend in the video singing with Matt!
