- Matt Giraud on the Idols Tour
With only five days left on the American Idols Live! 2009 tour, we caught up with Matt Giraud to find out about his Twitter following, gifts from fans, and his future plans.
Matt said the best part of being on tour is "getting a chance to perform in front of thousands of people. It's amazing. I'm savoring every moment." All 10 of the Idols have grown close with one another on tour, and Matt said, "I just like hanging out with the nine guys and girls. I'm gonna miss all these cats!"
On the social networking site Twitter, fans have been tweeting "#signmattgiraud" and it has become a trend. "It means a lot to me," Matt responded. "It's incredible, it's flattering, and it all happened without me starting it. It blows my mind." While Matt was on stage during a recent concert, Kris Allen notified him that the number two trending topic on Twitter was "#MattGiraudHatGod."
Matt's MyIdol forums have been buzzing with comments all summer long from many people who were impressed with Matt's performance on tour. Playing to live arenas has been different than performing on the show for Matt. "The response that I'm getting is that I'm better live. It shows that, for me, there was more to prove and more to show then what people saw on TV. Hearing these comments gives me a lot of motivation to keep going. It makes me happy." MyIdol member bawh6vn wanted to know what instrument, besides the piano, would Matt like to learn to play. Joking around, Matt said he'd like to learn how to play the piccolo. He would also give the ukulele a try and perform "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" like Jason Castro did during Season 7.
The Giraud Squad and the rest of Matt's fans have been very loyal and generous. "I've received lots of Tigger stuffed animals, probably about a few a day. I keep some of the stuff and give away the others to kids. Whatever I tweet about, without even thinking, the fans inevitably show up with those as gifts." Perhaps Matt should tweet about a car that he wants!
After the tour, Matt will host "Make The Cut," an online global singing contest. He has also booked shows across the country. "I plan on recording and putting a record out. I want to land a good record deal and make an album that I can have some say in creating." Mainly, Matt looks forward to "pursuing the dream of making music and touring across the country like I've been doing this summer with the Idol Tour."
For all of the American Idol hopefuls out there, Matt suggests, "Be yourself. Don't be afraid to be unique. Show your personality."
To all of Matt's fans he would like to say "thank you so much for supporting me and thanks to everyone who believes in me. Thanks for coming to the shows, buying songs, and for the kind messages on Twitter. Thanks for all of your support. It means the world to me." | |

| I saw that yesterday Jenna. Matt is so wonderful! I love that I can say I am one of those fans that have been with him since the beginning and that I believe in him. I still have to pinch myself when I think back to all those Tuesday nights I spent 2 hours on 2 phones voting for Matt Freaking Giraud (ha, that's how Trey referred to him at the After the Show MG) | |
