| I have loved this tour and all but I am SO READY for Matt to be on his own, making his own music, and going on solo tour! I think I will die if he doesn't come to Seattle! I may have to seriously think of getting a 2nd job to pay for flying to Mattcerts! | |

- I'm with you Lana! I actually can't wait for tour to be over either! I want to see MATT and ONLY Matt in concert. Gosh...I hope he comes to Florida, because my hubby is giving me a hard time about flying to Michigan in January. We're trying to save money for a home, better furniture, etc - we're newlyweds after all. Ahh...I gotta see him solo, though!
LOL cacity! I am thinking the same thing - wanna go to that concert so badly. Imagine a full set - just Matt. Have not yet discussed anything with hubby (yet).... :-)

I'm totally jealous that u got2 hear a "new song". I'm going to see Carlos Santana tonight and I keep thinking the last time I saw him was at the idol finale with Matt doing the few bars of BMW- it eontbe the same without Matt. As to the discussion re: labels, I'm in agreement with all who hope hor a major that is not affiliated with 19E management . Having said that, what wouldeveryones reaction be if it was an Indie label; if it Was 19E? I don't have any info and I do think it's a major label but I just don't want people jumping off the ledge!

| I would be happy with pretty much whatever sgr. Matt sounds so happy and excited, so I know it's something that he wants, and as much as 19 may be the ultimate stifler of creative freedom, they have some amazing lables and some of the biggest artists out right now. I wouldn't jump off the ledge to have Matt apart of that club.
As far as the indie thing, I would be disappointed because I REALLY am thinking it's major, but again as long as it's something Matt wants and is happy with, how much can any of us complain? I just want him signed at the end of the day, and satisfied with what he gets, so I'm happy with pretty much whatever.

No ledge jumping for me. I'm in it for the long haul whether he is signed to 19 Evil, indie, major, or no label. I just want Matt music and for him to have a long successful career doing what he loves doing...performing, singing, and playing the hell out of those keys! Love Matt regardless!

| I am pretty sure he is going to be signed MAJOR not indie.. The way he was telling his fans last night about good news and important people and all. He never really tweets about that and gets his fans all excited. It has to be one of the 4 big labels. I sure hope so. Matt doesn't deserve anything less.He is too good... He still seems super happy today so I am sure things are going well! Gosh I am thinking the day the announcement is made we are going to be in such a high! I really hope we don't have to wait too long for things to be official. I am hoping to wait one month at the most if not in two weeks. Is that too much to ask for? | |

Can you imagine our excitement! Umm...YES!! Cannot wait till the news is released and MATT IS SIGNED! It's gonna be historic for sure. We gotta keep spreading the word though, everyone - right now is crucial b/c whatever label saw him play the other night is probably also scooping out his fans and seeing how much support there is for him out there! I did a Youtube run last night and watched a bunch of Matt vids and listened to his studios and just put #SignMattGiraud along with a nice message sometimes in the comment section! Gotta keep his ratings and views up...

| And btw, back to the OP - I've been doing some extensive research on the individual labels underneath Universal Music Group, specifically a few of the ones I've never really heard of like Island Def Jam Music Group, Verve Music Group and Decca Records. Island Def Jam Music Group - Relatively new label, formed in 1999. Some artists include Jon Mclaughlin (LOVE HIM!), Mariah Carey, Duffy, Jay-Z. Seems to have a "pop/r&b" focus when it comes to artists. So... Verve Music Group - First big name I see on their website is Idol contestant Katherine McPhee, seems she's been signed with them and has an album coming out next month. Jamie Cullum, the guy Matt has been "name-dropping," is also signed on this label. Interesting... Decca Records - One of the oldest original labels, established in 1929. They seem to have a HUGE variety of music. Classical, country, pop/r&b, rock, broadway...you name it, they got it. Their most popular artists are The Rolling Stones and Sting. They also just recently signed former Idol Clay Aiken. Hmm... So that's my gathering. I honestly believe that it would be entirely too picky of me to choose which of these "Universal-family" labels I would want Matt signed to. They would ALL be great in some way! I just love reading about each of them and gaining knowledge - so that when Matt DOES announce who he's signed to (because we KNOW he's going to be signed!) then I'll have some sort of idea as to what the label is like. Haha. | |

| hmm. I can see any of those label signing Matt, I won't lie. haha. Maybe a label in Universal, or Atlantic [like Jason Castro.]
I don't know anything about EMI GROUP PLC, though. Never heard of it before. haha, i better do some research. I like to think I know which group Matt should be in, but I have no clue. lol

Ahhhh! Can't wait for that day Jenna! It's going to be amazing! Me either! I know we really haven't been waiting very long for this announcement but doesn't it seem like a long time coming? I mean he wasn't even released from his contract with 19Evil until August 20th but I just feel so excited and I really don't have much patience left. So hurry up and announce it already!

| You already know where I stand on this Cass. I've been strongly rooting for Universal Music from the JUMP. But not because I think Universal Music has more integrity than Warner Music or Sony, all major record labels have screwed artists on their roster, all of them rank profit over artistic integrity (in fact while artistic integrity likely ranks high if not #1 on an artist's list of importance, I doubt that it even makes the record label's list). Rather, I'm hoping for Universal Music partially because I think they have a strong artist roster; in my opinion it's the best roster of any of the major labels (in terms of diversity, names, etc.). Pretty much all of my favorite artists are signed to Universal (Sony comes in second). And, in my opinion, the good artists on their roster trump "questionable" ones (and they definitely do have a WHOLE BUNCH of artists on their roster that are" questionable"...Pussycat Dolls., Soulja Boy Tell 'Em anyone? ) The great artists that are part of their roster coupled with the fact that they own such a dominate share of the market, tells me that they're likely the best at what they do...and I want Matt with the best. Universal Music also just strikes me as being able to handle Matt's diverse musical stylings better than any other label (though admittedly this could just be wishful thinking on my part)...this doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't try to pigeon hole him but just based on the artists signed to Interscope alone, I think they would get Matt's unique musical point of view better than the others. Plus many artists Matt likes and/or wants to emulate (to some extent) and/or work with are on Universal (Colbie Calliat, One Republic, James Morrision, etc.). Currently based on a cursory review, the Billboard Hot 100 chart is dominated by Universal and Sony Music artists. Universal Music seems to have more artists in the top 40 than Sony Music, including the #1 spot with the Black Eyed Peas. For the Billboard Top 200 albums chart, Sony got the top spot with Whitney Houston's new album. The highest ranking Universal Music artist is currently Colbie Calliat, who fell to #5 after landing the top spot the week prior. Sony Music seems to have more artists in the top 20 for albums than Universal (I didn't check pass that). Sony Music is probably my very distant second choice for Matt. I don't hate Sony, I hate 19E. Kind of like I hated Death Row Records while it was active with Interscope but not Universal Music (like I said above, all major record labels have issues). So I wouldn't mind if Matt signed with a Sony imprint like Arista/J Records/RCA or Columbia cause they probably would be a good fit too. But I would def. prefer Universal Music for the reasons above and a few others. ***Edit: Sorry in the above I was thinking Arista but typed Atlantic. Lol. Matt would be a good fit with Atlantic too but that' falls under Warner Music.**** To answer your question Cass about whether or not Matt would be the first Idol Alumn signed to Universal Music: Clay Aiken was dropped from Sony/RCA earlier this year and signed to Decca last month, so no, Matt wouldn't be the first but that doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things. Whatever happens, like y'all, I'm just SUPER SUPER happy that Matt's happy and whatever might be giving him/have given him that happiness (hopefully it's a deal with a record label ) is great. And yeah, I can't WAIT for him to be free and able to do his own thing and get on with the next phase of his career/his solo tour! It's going to be FANTASTIC!! | |
